The Art of Creating Stained Glass Angels

Angels are one of the most recognized and popular subjects of Stained Glass Art.

Angels have held this distinction around the world throughout the history of art. Many of the most famous expressions of historical stained glass art are those multitudes of the heavenly hosts that grace the windows of the most famous European cathedrals.

Pat Chase, artist, designer, teacher, and author

I have always been a crafter; I’m very good with my hands to do many kinds of folk art and such. In the mid-nineties I took a beginning class in stained glass, from Deverie Wood in Maltbly WA.   With my long-time interest in seashells, I started designing and making windows and lamps using the copper-foil technique. Family members were overjoyed to receive these as gifts. In Christmas of 1999 I wanted to make an angel, and I was not satisfied with existing patterns. I started drawing and created a beautiful angel which I named ‘Grace’.

I received such positive response that I continued drawing and had enough designs to advertise with Glass Patterns Quarterly magazine.  They featured "Joy" in 2003 and CKE published my first book, Angel Companions, in 2007, with worldwide distribution.  I have been featured five times in GPQ since 2003. I continued my design work and had enough designs for a second book. CKE was out of business, so I self-published and Angel Companions II was released in 2019. I am marketing both books through my website AngelGlassArt.com.

My experience as an artist has been rewarding all these years. I have received positive feedback and praise from clients and friends. I enjoy what I do and feels wonderful to know that others appreciate my artwork. I plan to continue creating, teaching, and encouraging others to enjoy the beautiful medium of stained glass.

It has been a wonderful validation of my artwork to see people using my angel patterns on Etsy and Pinterest to market their work.

I teach beginner students, one-on-one, youth and adults in my studio in the local community on the Northeast Olympic Peninsula. For a reasonable rate, tools supplies and even glass are supplied, using the copper foil-technique. You will have a 12-to-15-piece project, with your own pattern choice. Some of the work can be done at home. I'm very flexible with scheduling. Thus, you will have an art piece without a big investment. Contact me, as I love to teach and get others interested in this wonderful medium.

My philosophy is that, when you create an art form, be it glass, fabric, yarn, paints, etc., the pattern is just the start. Then you create! Your hands and your imagination take over to make the end project totally new, because you made it yourself. I just helped with the pattern. These patterns are for you to use in your art creation to gift to others. Check me out on Facebook for more information.

If you want to purchase without using Stripe checkout, I can accept money orders or checks. Please contact me by email at ponygal67@gmail.com to arrange payment. You will receive your autographed copy by mail. Thanks so much---Blessings,

Pat Chase
